Lacey Nymeyer HOF
A native of Tucson, Ariz., Lacey Nymeyer was destined to be a Wildcat and when she entered the swimming program in 2004, she quickly became one of the most accomplished student-athletes in Arizona history, both in and out of the pool. A two year co-captain, two-time individual National Champion and eight-time relay National Champion, Lacey’s win in the 100 Free at the 2008 National Championship helped Arizona make history and win the first team national title. Still today, Lacey holds the second-fastest time in Arizona history in both the 100 Free and 200 Free and fourth-fastest time in Arizona history in the 50 Free.The 26-time All-American was named the Pac-10 Women’s Swimmer of the Year in 2007 and was later recognized as the State Farm Pride of the Pac-10 medal winner in 2008. One of the top swimmers in the country, Lacey also proved to be at the top internationally, as evident by her being on the USA National A-Team for four years and competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where she advanced to the semifinals in the 100 Free and earned a silver medal in the 400 Free Relay while representing Team USA.
A four-time UA Academic Champion, Lacey also excelled in the classroom which led her to being named the 2007-08 Toyo Tires Scholar Athlete of the Year as well as the 2008 Pac-10 Scholar Athlete of the Year. She received the Ruby Award, given to Arizona Athletics’ outstanding female senior, in 2008.
Following her senior campaign, Lacey was one of only four women in school history to be named the winner of the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year honor in 2009. She will remain a large part of Arizona’s swimming legacy for generations to come.
