James Attebery
Described as a man of diligence, integrity, and professionalism, James Attebery has served as a music educator for 22 years. After earning his Bachelor of Music Education K-12 from Northern Arizona University, James began his teaching career while also performing in the Arizona Symphonic Winds, Southern Arizona’s premier community concert band.

As the Band Director and music teacher for Marana High School, James assists students to make connections between the music, real-world applications and their academic setting. Committed to student centered learning, his innovative and high quality teaching creates a positive and professional place of learning where he makes every effort to maximize student learning and participation. He brings a dedication to excellence in all that he does; driven by a commitment to music and arts education, the care that he has for his students, and the camaraderie that exists among the band members. His use of new techniques provides every student, regardless of current ability, an opportunity to participate, experience different instrument ranges, rhythms and techniques, and increase their individual musicianship.

James’s dedication to his students, school, and his art is also evident in his role as the Department Chair for Fine Arts and representative for the Education Association. His leadership and advocacy impacts not only his own program but the entire arts department. When not in his classroom, the band also serves as a point of pride for the Marana community and its surrounding areas. It is common to see his musicians performing for openings and dedications, in addition to representing the community in various parades, festivals, and school functions.
