Charmaine Gale

As a freshman in 1982, Charmaine Gale was the Indoor High Jump National Champion, clearing a height of 6-1.5 and becoming Arizona’s first freshman (men or women) to win an Indoor National Championship. To this day, Gale is still the only woman in Arizona Track & Field history to win an Indoor National Championship in any event as a freshman. Gale set the tone for future Wildcats to have success in the high jump at the Indoor National Championships as four other UA athletes took home the high jump crown.
