Rachel Lodge
Flowing Wells High School and the Flowing Wells District are proud to recognize Rachel Lodge as their nominee for outstanding high school teacher. Rachel graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Social Studies Education and a minor in English.
Rachel Lodge currently teaches freshmen World History at Flowing Wells High School, and has taught a variety of English and Social Studies courses in both general education and special education. Ms. Lodge believes in the power of community and works daily to make meaningful connections with her students. When Rachel was a high school student, the kindness and compassion of her teachers and the supportive community they established helped her transcend the challenges she faced outside of school. Her teachers’ belief in her inspired Rachel to return to her alma mater, Flowing Wells High School, to support her students in the same way. Students in Ms. Lodge’s World History classes know and trust each other, which is the crucial foundation for them to take risks and grow intellectually.
In addition to cultivating a strong community inside her classroom walls, Ms. Lodge also gives back to the larger community. She organizes the annual campus-wide clothing drive that supports the school clothing bank. She leads the Everyday Christians Campus Outreach club, which engages in numerous community service activities including serving Thanksgiving dinner to hundreds of families each year. Ms. Lodge also leads the Interact club, which connects students to service opportunities benefiting the local homeless population. She also co-leads an international trip each year, traveling with students to Italy, Spain, Germany, and even China, opening new windows to the world for many students who have never traveled outside of Arizona. Through every club meeting, every trip, every community service event, and every lesson, Rachel Lodge’s commitment to her students shines bright.
