Kim Dickinson
Kim Dickinson attended the University of Hawaii in Hilo and earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Cal State University of Hayward (now known as Cal State East Bay). She earned her teaching credentials from Prescott College.
Ms. Dickinson was the first person in the Amphitheater Public School District to become a National Board Certified Physical Education teacher. In her role as the Department Head for Physical Education, she initiated and has maintained a Hall of Fame that records student fitness scores and weight-training records. The department uses this data, along with other sources, to develop programs to benefit all students. Overall fitness scores have risen by 25 percent since this program began. Ms. Dickinson also serves as a campus leader, working on a team that helps develop, coordinate and lead a school-improvement initiative.
Ms. Dickinson is a strong advocate for special needs students and has developed a dynamic culture of inclusion. Her work, along with the partnership she fostered with Special Olympics, led to Amphitheater High School being recognized as a Unified Champion School. More importantly, her approach has led to the inclusion of special needs students in all school activities, opportunities and functions.
