Carla Wright - Honor Roll

Carla Wright - Cienega High School

Carla Wright - TOTY

Carla Wright always admired her extended family members who were teachers, and she wanted to be a teacher when she was in high school. She knew she wanted to work with kids. So, Carla headed to New Mexico State University where she became a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor’s of Psychology and the intent to pursue a master’s in counseling. But, she shifted course and earned her Master’s in Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix while she and her husband were stationed in Italy for his military career.

Carla now teaches Government at Cienega High School in the Vail School District, where her students learn government, and then they DO government. After learning about the branches of government, my students experience “classroom” government including teen town halls, a mock senate, and mock trials. Beyond experiencing government in the classroom, her students attend the Pima County Law Day where students go to the County courthouse, talk with judges and attorneys, and go into the courtrooms to watch live court in action. Her students also become part of the political process at the ballot box and by writing government officials.

Carla not only coaches track, serves as the Red Cross Club Sponsor, and served as the 2020 Graduation Team Lead, she is an avid extracurricular attendee… including driving a bus full of Bobcat students to state championship games in Phoenix! And, she works to involve her students in the political process engaging hundreds of young students to become advocates for issues of passion.
