Jeffrey Mann - Honor Roll

Jeffrey Mann - Flowing Wells High School

Jeffrey Mann - TOTY

Flowing Wells High School and the Flowing Wells District are proud to recognize Jeffrey Mann. Jeffrey earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Gordon College and a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Arizona.

Jeffrey Mann has taught World History at Flowing Wells High School since 2009. He believes that students should learn from history rather than merely memorizing historical facts. A poignant example of his approach is evident in his unit on genocide, in which students create butterfly artwork representing child artists from the Czech concentration camp of Terezin. These butterflies adorn the classroom until, at the end of the unit, Mr. Mann reveals the true fate of each Terezin child to the class. If the child had survived the Holocaust, the corresponding butterfly also survives. If the child had perished, the butterfly is torn in half and piled in the center of the classroom, illustrating the effects of dehumanization and, by extension, the inherent value of every human.

Mr. Mann also coordinates student volunteers through his support of The Friends of the Pima County Public Library, and he annually leads a group of high school students on overseas adventures through the Flowing Wells Ambassadors Club.
