Jeremy Samoy - Tanque Verde High School
Jeremy Samoy received his BA in Secondary Education, majoring in Social Studies, from the University of Arizona in 2009, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Mr. Samoy teaches Regular & AP US History and Mock Trial at Tanque Verde High School. He also co-sponsors the World Culture Club, helps organize overseas trips for students to help expand their world views, acts as the Student Council Junior Class sponsor, and supports the NHS and their participation in the Honor Flights program. In addition, he partners with the Optimist Club to host an Oratorical Contest. As the Mock Trial coach, he and his team host a preseason tournament which allows the mentoring of new Mock Trial programs. His students regularly compete at the regional and state competitions.
Mr. Samoy’s vision is that students see history not as something set in stone, but something to question and evaluate. To achieve this, he uses role playing simulations to help students put themselves in historical situations. His students then take historical dilemmas and debate the justification for these actions. Mr. Samoy also incorporates projects to provide a creative outlet for students to experience the content that they are studying so that they can see the personal connection history has to their own lives.
