LISA BAKER – CIENEGA HIGH SCHOOL
Lisa Baker is a first-generation high school graduate who earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Brandon University in Canada. Because of her deep love of learning, she continued by earning a Master’s in Education from the University of Texas, another Master’s in Science at the University of Nebraska, another 64 credits of coursework. She is considering a PhD and national Board Certification.
Lisa currently teaches Honors Chemistry, Pima Community College Chemistry, AP Chemistry, AP Seminary, and AP Research at Cienega High School in Vail. She understands that she must beat the cell phone in terms of teenager interest. She incorporates Ziplet, an end of week exit ticket where students assess their own learning, take charge of it, set new goals, and empower themselves. Further, every space in her classroom is used. Her periodic table can be found on the ceiling, and a huge wall sized coloring page is visited by students as well as fellow staff who just need a mental health breather!
Mrs. Baker is always found serving, but one of her favorites with her students is hosting Science Nights at elementary schools in the district where her students demonstrate how much fun science can be.
