Roberto Martinez received a B.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona and also completed the Bilingual Endorsement Program at the UA College of Education.

Mr. Martinez currently serves as the Director of Sunnyside High School’s Mariachi Education Program. He also serves as the Fine Arts Lead Learner where he contributes his expertise to the Curriculum and Instruction Department by providing support and direction in the development of music education curriculum for 6th–12th grade programs in the district. Connecting with students through music, culture and language are key components to his teaching practice. Through music he helps students build trust, confidence, creativity, identity, purpose and agency. Mr. Martinez was a cast member for the Walt Disney World Company, Epcot Center, Mexico Pavilion for 33 years. His dynamic experience as a professional musician adds value to his classroom and to the Tucson community where performances by his students can often be enjoyed.

Mariachi Los Diablitos de Sunnyside High School spent many evenings and weekends performing at events such as the University of Arizona, Banner Children’s Hospital, Jewish History Museum, Tucson Roadrunners Hockey and FC Tucson Soccer, Red Cross of Tucson and the Jewish History Museum.
