Chip Viney enters his third season with the Widlcats in 2026. He was hired by head coach Brent Brennan in January 2024 following two seasons at San Jose State where he served as the Spartans cornerbacks coach.

Under Viney's guidance in 2025, Jay'Vion Cole earned Third Team All-Big 12 honors and following the season Michael Dansby was selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. Viney's corners were a crucial piece of the Wildcats pass defense that ranked among the best in the nation in 2025. Once the season was wrapped the Arizona pass defense ranked first in the nation in pass efficiency defense, second in interceptions, and seventh in passing yards allowed.

Prior to joining Arizona, Viney hlped lead the Spartans to a second place finish in the Mountain West in total defense and a first place finish in pass defense including 12 interceptions which tied for second in the conference. SJSU allowed a conference-low 183.00 yards through the air.

In 2022, Viney's defensive backs combined for nine interceptions and helped the Spartans achieve a Mountain West best +12 turnover margin in the regular season. 
 
Prior to SJSU, Viney had various roles with Oklahoma football over two tenures. The most recent stint was from 2018 through 2021 when he served in recruiting and team defense analyst roles. For the 2021 season, he was the director of player development and scouting analyst. 
  
The Fresno, Calif., native also spent 2013 through 2016 at Oklahoma as a graduate assistant working with cornerbacks his first three seasons and was the Sooners' 2016 special teams analyst. 
  
In his eight seasons with Oklahoma football, the Sooners won five Big 12 Conference championships and participated in the 2018 and 2019 College Football Playoffs, and the 2013 Bowl Championship Series (BCS). 
 
In between his two tenures at Oklahoma, Viney was at the University of Nevada in 2017 coaching cornerbacks. 
 
He earned letter awards for the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Bruin teams and was named its scout team player of the year as a freshman. Viney completed his college career at New Mexico State in 2011. He then played one season of Arena Football for the 2012 San Jose SaberCats. 

Viney graduated from UCLA (2010) and was a history major. He and his wife Whitney have two daughters Milan and Brooklyn. Viney was born on July 20, 1989, in Fresno, Calif.
