Chris Singletary

  • Title
    Director of Recruiting
An 18-year veteran working in athletics, Chris Singletary joined Rich Rodriguez’s staff in January of 2016 when he was hired as the director of recruiting. In his role, Singletary coordinates all aspects of the program’s recruiting efforts, including the organization of recruiting trips for coaches, and the planning for prospects visits to campus. He also oversees the prospect evaluation process and other operational responsibilities.

Singletary added the responsibility of serving as the NFL liaison for the Wildcats in 2017, organizing the program’s Pro Day, working with team scouts and assisting with film evaluation.

Prior to his arrival in Tucson, Singletary was the recruiting coordinator at Michigan from 2006-11 and later the director of player personnel through the 2015 seasons. He oversaw Michigan’s recruiting efforts in both roles. His time with the Wolverines included three seasons on Rodriguez’s staff (2008-10), and he worked under three other head coaches, including Lloyd Carr, Brady Hoke and most recently, Jim Harbaugh.

While at Michigan, Singletary led the recruiting charge for 43 future NFL players, four Top-10 recruiting classes and six classes in the Top 20. Singletary recruited current NFL players Denard Robinson, Jabrill Peppers, Taylor Lewan, Taco Charlton, Jourdan Lewis, Jake Butt, Devin Funchess, Chris Wormley and several others. Lewan, Charlton and Peppers were all first-round draft picks.

Singletary’s successful run at Michigan followed a stellar playing career in Ann Arbor. A letterman at Michigan (1996-98), Singletary graduated in May 1999 with a degree in sports management and communications. He was a special teams standout and played in 36 career games. He played in four bowl games during his career, including an appearance in the 1998 Rose Bowl, where Michigan earned a split national championship for the 97 season. Singletary played alongside Tom Brady, Charles Woodson, Tyrone Wheatley, Larry Foote and several other future NFL players while at Michigan.

Following graduation, Singletary was hired by the International Management Group. He spent one year in IMG's basketball department before accepting a position as Director of Player Resources in the football department with Tom Condon. He worked for IMG for seven-plus years (1999-2006) as a licensed NFL agent, before returning to his alma mater. During his seven-year stint, Singletary facilitated recruiting efforts, assisted in contract negotiations, coordinated IMG’s training facility in Florida, and represented NFL stars such as LaDanian Tomlinson, Kevin Williams, Byron Leftwich, Thomas Jones, Larry Foote, Roy Williams, Steve Hutchinson and others.

A Detroit native, Singletary attended St. Martin DePorres High School where he was selected to the all-state Dream Teams of The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press. He was listed No. 7 on The Detroit News Blue-Chip List as a senior, and was named a Super Prep All-American, a Schutt All-American and a Prep Football Report All-American.

Singletary and his wife, LaToya, have two sons, Chris Jr. (6) and Bryce (3). LaToya graduated from U-M with a degree in electrical engineering and currently is the associate director of development at Arizona’s college of engineering
