Matt Barber is in his first season with the Arizona strength and conditioning staff, working primarily with the football program, in addition to the jumpers and multis with the track and field team.

Barber comes to Arizona after two seasons serving as Maryland’s Assistant Director of Football Strength & Conditioning, aiding Director of Strength & Conditioning, Drew Wilson, in the athletic development of the football team. 

Prior to Maryland, Barber spent two seasons as the Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning at the University of Nevada (2012-13).  Along with assisting in the development of strength & conditioning program for football, Barber headed the strength & conditioning program for women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and women’s track & field at Nevada.

Barber originally arrived at Nevada as Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach in May of 2012. Before Nevada, Barber served internships with the University of Iowa football program from January 2012 to May 2012 and with the University of Maryland Football program during the 2011 season.

Barber earned a M.E. in Education Leadership from the University of Nevada. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is also certified in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS).

A Maryland-native, Barber grew up in Gaithersburg, Md. where he attended Damascus High School. He attended the University of Maine where he was an offensive lineman for Black Bears football team and earned a B.S. in Kinesiology & Physical Education - Exercise Science in 2010.
