Biography

2018: Redshirted…Played in only one contest due to injury…Suffered a hamstring injury in August camp, delaying season debut until Southern Utah contests (Sept. 15). Sustained an elbow injury in that game and missed remainder of season.

2017: Started all 13 games at the “field” cornerback position … Led team for second straight season with 13 pass breakups, while intercepting three passes, including one for a touchdown … Registered 46 tackles, including 39 solo stops, with 2.0 for loss … Recorded a season-high 12 tackles and broke up three passes against Purdue in Foster Farms Bowl (Dec. 27) … Turned in four tackles at Arizona State (Nov. 25) … Collected three solo stops with a pass breakup at Oregon (Nov. 18) … Tallied a pair of solo tackles in final home victory over Oregon State (Nov. 11) … Picked up two solo tackles at USC (Nov. 4) … Recorded five solo stops, intercepted a pass and broke up another in upset win over No. 15 Washington State (Oct. 28) … Chipped in one tackle and broke up a pass in double-overtime road win at California (Oct. 21) … Intercepted two passes, returning one 42 yards for a touchdown, while breaking up another pass and recording two tackles in victory over UCLA (Oct. 14) … Collected three pass breakups and added three solo tackles in road win at Colorado (Oct. 7) … Notched a pair of solo tackles against Utah (Sept. 22) … Broke up three passes and recorded five tackles, including a half-tackle for loss, in road win at UTEP (Sept. 15) … Tallied for solo stops against Houston (Sept. 9) … Turned in one tackle in season-opening victory over NAU (Sept. 2).

2016: Played in all 12 games, including starts in the final seven games at the field cornerback position … Led the team with 11 pass breakups, while collecting 35 tackles, including one for loss, along with one interception … Collected three stops against BYU (Sept. 3) to open season in the Cactus Kickoff Classic in Glendale, Ariz. … Intercepted a pass and returned it 22 yards, while making one tackle in home-opening victory over Grambling State (Sept. 10) … Had three tackles and a pass breakup in victory over Hawai’i (Sept. 17) … Tallied four tackles and broke up two passes at UCLA (Oct. 1) … Earned a start and turned in a career-best performance to date at Utah (Oct. 8). Recorded four solo tackles and broke up four passes, which were the most since Antoine Cason also had five against Oregon on Nov. 15, 2007. Named the team’s Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts … Posted two tackles and two pass breakups against USC (Oct. 15) … Totaled seven tackles against Stanford (Oct. 29) … Combined for nine tackles over three games against Washington State (Nov. 5), Colorado (Nov. 12) and Oregon State (Nov. 19) … Capped season with two tackles and a pass breakup in Territorial Cup victory against Arizona State (Nov. 25).

2015: Played in 11 of team’s 13 games, including three starts … Had 23 tackles, 20 of which were solo stops, along with four pass breakups … Recorded first career tackle in opener against UTSA (9/3) … Totaled a season-high 11 tackles, including 10 solo stops and 1.0 for loss, in first career start at Colorado (10/17) … Combined for seven tackles and four pass breakups in subsequent starts against Washington State (10/24) and Washington (10/31) … Contributed four special teams tackles, including three in kickoff coverage.

High School: Played defensive back for head coach John Carroll at Oceanside High School and graduated in spring 204 … As a senior, was his squad’s defensive player of the year, earned first-team all-conference honors and was a three-star recruit by Scout.com and Rivals.com.

Personal: Son of Jerry and Lanie Whittaker … Father played baseball at Oklahoma and was a member of their CWS Championship team before playing with the Chicago White Sox … Brother, J.J., plays football at San Diego State...Majoring in Educational Leadership.
