Austin Carroll was named assistant director of operations at Arizona in June of 2016. He spent the previous two seasons with Arizona as a graduate assistant and replaces Ben Tucker who was named assistant coach at Northern Arizona University.
In his current position, Carroll oversees Arizona’s video scouting efforts and is responsible for the organization, breakdown, scouting and presentation of game film. He will also handle player edits for individual players’ use, creates recruiting videos and cuts recruiting film for coaches’ evaluation. The Massachusetts native will also help oversee the program’s progress in the classroom.
During his first two seasons with the Wildcats, Arizona posted a record of 59-13 with a Pac-12 regular season and conference tournament championship. UA went to the NCAA Tournament in both of Carroll’s seasons as graduate assistant, including a berth in Elite Eight of the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
His work experience with head coach Sean Miller also includes a stint as the video coordinator for the Miller-led Team USA U-19 team that won the gold medal in the 2015 FIBA World Championships in Greece.
Carroll split his NCAA Division I basketball career with two seasons at Rutgers University before playing his final two years at American University. He helped guide the Eagles to the 2014 Patriot League Tournament championship and the program’s third-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
The Bedford, Mass. Native earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Finance from American University in 2014. Carroll is the son of John Carroll, who earned Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors in 1991 as head coach at Duquesne and served as interim head coach of the Boston Celtics during the 2003-04 season.
