Mateus Ceolin enters his third year with Arizona in 2024-25 after serving as Assistant Coach in 2023-24 and Volunteer Assistant Coach in 2022-23.
Arizona's 2023-24 campaign was one of the most successful in program history. Ceolin helped the Cats to the program's first Pac-12 Tournament Championship as well as its third consecutive Pac-12 Regular Season Championship. He helped guide Colton Smith, Jay Friend and Gustaf Strom to All-Pac-12 First Team honors, Nick Lagaev and Herman Hoeyeraal to All-Pac-12 Second Team laurels and Casper Christensen to All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors.
The Cats posted an impressive 26-4 record, defeating 16 ranked opponents on the year. Smith and Friend were named Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year, the first pair in program history to win the award, and Strom became the program's second-ever Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
In his first year with the Cats, Ceolin helped coach the team to a 14-0 home record, the team’s second ever Sweet 16 appearance and a back-to-back regular season conference championship. He coached four All-Conference players in his first season as volunteer assistant coach.
Ceolin joined the Wildcats from Cameron University where he worked as a graduate assistant coach for their men's tennis progam from fall 2020 to spring 2022, and where he also earned his master's in psychology. He was nominated for ITA Assistant Coach of the Year for the South Central Region in the latter season.
In Ceolin's first season with the Aggies, the team advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA DII tournament, finished with an overall record of 17-13, was named ITA All-Academic and had a doubles pair finish at No. 11 in the U.S. During his second and final season at Cameron, the team appeared in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA DII tournament, named ITA All-Academic again and one of their doubles pairs finished in first place of the South Central Region rankings.
Before stepping into coaching collegiate tennis, Ceolin graduated from Montana State University with a degree in physical education and a minor in coaching. He wasted no time pursuing his passion for coaching when offered an assistant coach position for the men's tennis team at his alma matter under then-head coach Trey Morris. His first and only season with the Bobcats was abbreviated due to COVID-19, but the team finished with an overall record of 5-4.
Ceolin is married to his wife Emily, who he met while working at the Bozeman, Mont. YMCA summer camp. They share a dog named Marshall.
