Biography
Senior (2022-23)
In his final year at Arizona, Sakagawa compiled an overall record of 7-5 in singles and 6-3 in doubles, accumulating most of his stats in the fall tournament season. He is part of the 2023 Wildcat squad that made history by becoming back-to-back Pac-12 regular season champions, hosting NCAA rounds for the first time ever, staying undefeated at home with a 14-0 record, and being the nation’s leading D1 tennis team in community service hours. Sakagawa graduated from Arizona’s prestigious Eller College of Management with degrees in Economics and Sociology.Â
Junior (2021-22)
Due to an injury in the spring, Sakagawa only played in the fall of his third season for the Wildcats. He finished with an overall record of 3-2 in singles and 3-1 in doubles. Sakagawa was named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2022.
Sophomore (2020-21)
Sakagawa went undefeated in his three singles matches in the spring to go along with his 1-1 doubles record to finish his second season with the Wildcats.
Freshman (2019-20)
In his first year, Sakagawa went 11-5 in singles play, as well going undefeated in dual play during the spring. He was 3-0 from the No. 6 spot during the spring, while also maintaining a 7-5 doubles record from the fall season. The 2019-2020 season was cut short due to COVID-19.
Junior Career:
During Sakagawa’s junior career he reached No. 185 in the ITF Junior Rankings and a Universal Tennis Rating of 13.28. While in his native Japan, he was a two-time national doubles champion and a three-time national runner-up.
