Bobby Carter enters his third year as Arizona's jumps & multis coach. Carter has helped lift the jumps and multis to newfound heights in the national picture during his first two seasons with the program.

In his second season in 2022-23 with Arizona Track and Field, the Wildcats excelled in the long jump with Jenica Bosko (long jump), Reinaldo Rodrigues (2nd Team All-American, long jump), and Sir Jonathan Sims (long jump) qualified for the NCAA West Regional First Round Championships in Sacramento, Calif. This success put the Arizona men's track and field team 18th in the USTFCCCA National Rankings in 2022-23. The Wildcats were ranked by the USTFCCCA as high as 7th in the women's long jump and 9th in the women's triple jump nationally during the 2022-23 season.

Some noteworthy accomplishments over the past two seasons include, Bosko winning the long jump at the Jim Click Shootout with a PR leap of 6.50m (21-4) which is second in program history. Taylen Wise recorded a personal best leap of 12.81m (42-0.5) in the triple jump, which is third all-time in program history and broke the Arizona freshman record. Wise had a long-jump PR of 6.14m (20-1.75) which is tied for ninth in program history. Esther Akinlosotu posted a personal best of 12.52m (41-1) in the triple jump at the Texas Tech Open Multis. Akinlosotu was a member of the 4x100m team that clocked the second-fastest time in school history of 44.43 and finished second overall at the Jim Click Shootout. Skylar Sieben won the pentathlon at the Pac-12 Invitational with a PR score of 4072 and personal bests in the 60m hurdles and shot put. Also, a season best in the heptathlon of 5542.

He helped lead the USATF Team to a medal record at the Pan American U20 Championships as the woman's assistant coach in 2023. The team earned 36 women's medals and 26 men's medals for a total of 62.

In his three years at Navy, Carter coached jumps and helped guide the program to seven Patriot League team titles. In his final season, Carter coached three All-Conference athletes on the road to the program’s third consecutive Outdoor Conference Championships sweep. Breanna Mealer and Audrey Fernandez were among those athletes, placing second in the long jump and triple jump to earn their all-conference honors. Clayton Thompson also finished second in the long jump, earning Men’s Track Athlete of the Meet.

Carter also coached three Navy athletes to school records with Caden Daily taking the men’s indoor long jump with a mark of 7.58m (24-10.5), Ann Jackson breaking the women’s outdoor long jump record at 6.05m (19-10.25) and Evelyn Berecz posting the top indoor triple jump mark of 12.20m (40-0.5).

Prior to his time at Navy, Carter coached jumps at Oral Roberts where he helped develop six All-Americans, 14 conference champions and 10 school record holders. Among those athletes was Mercy Abire who earned All-America accolades during the 2018 outdoor season after posting a school record long jump mark of 6.50m (21-4.0).

Before making his way to Oral Roberts, Carter coached at Nebraska, his alma mater. He was responsible for four All-Americans including Isaiah Griffith who won the USATF Junior Outdoor Triple Jump Championship with a mark of 16.21m (53-2.25).

Carter was an elite athlete himself, competing for Nebraska in the long jump and 4x100 relay. He was a two-time All-American, finishing 12th in the long jump at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships and seventh at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships competing as part of the 4x100 relay. During his time at Nebraska, Carter also earned scholar athlete distinctions.

He comes from a decorated Track and Field family including his uncle Michael who holds the American national high school record of 81 feet 3+1/2 inches in the shot put and was also an Olympic Silver Medalist in 1984 (shot put). Michael won 3 Super Bowls with the 49ers and was the first man to win an Olympic medal and a Super Bowl ring in the same season. Michelle Carter (cousin) is the current American record holder in the shot put (20.63m, 67-8), set at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio when she won a gold medal. Michelle is the first United States women's athlete to win the event since the competition began at the 1948 Summer Olympic Games in London, and only the second American to win any medal in the event.

Carter and his wife Nataly have three sons, Maiyan, Kobe, and Maasai.
