  • Title
    Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

Calamity McEntire is in her fourth year as an assistant coach with the University of Arizona women’s basketball staff. After the 2012-13 season, McEntire was promoted with recruiting coordinator duties.

In 2013, McEntire helped Arizona land a top-25 recruiting class--its best recruiting class in program history.

In addition to making program history on the recruiting circuit, McEntire also helped orchestrate the original “#Chillin4Charity” movement that swept the nation during the summer of 2014, challenging other programs around the country to dump buckets of ice water on their heads in an effort to raise awareness for cancer and raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Prior to Arizona, McEntire spent four years at Boise State, where she served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for four years, specifically handling scouting, assisting with team workouts and coaching the guards.

As recruiting coordinator at Boise State, McEntire brought five players to campus that made conference all-freshman teams. She coached two athletes who earned postseason all-conference honors, two league all-defensive team members, 11 who received a total of 22 Academic All-Conference honors and two who garnered ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition.

Prior to Boise State, McEntire spent two years at UC Santa Barbara, where she served as Director of Women’s Basketball Operations. Prior to that, she served as an assistant coach at Fresno State from 2004 to 2006. In addition to on-floor coaching, she managed recruiting, monitored academic progress of student-athletes and oversaw the program's community outreach endeavors. During her time at Fresno State, she helped the Bulldogs advance to the WNIT.

In her nine years of coaching, McEntire has worked with Davellyn Whyte, the 16th-drafted player in the 2013 WNBA draft and arguably the best player in Arizona women’s basketball history. In addition, she coached five players who combined for six all-conference honors, three who earned all-defensive team recognition, five all-freshmen team honorees and two players who made conference all-tournament teams. In addition, 21 individuals earned a combined total of 37 academic all-conference honors.

In addition, McEntire coached one of the most prolific scorers in UA history in Candice Warthen. Warthen eventually became Arizona’s 18th 1,000-point scorer and finished her career placed at No. 16 on the program’s all-time scoring list. She also earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors, a Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention, and Pac-12 Player of the Week honors on two seperate occasions during her career.

McEntire, a native of Kiowa, Okla., graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2003 with a degree in education and sports management.  While at Tennessee, she worked as an equipment manager for the Lady Vols from May 2001 to July 2003.  She also worked as the equipment manager/gym director for the Pat Summitt Summer Basketball Camp from 2001-03.
