2025 Season
In her first season with the GymCats, assistant coach Shelby Martinez led the Cats to a final ranking of No. 26 on vault by Road to Nationals. Martinez was hired in August of 2024 and led the vault team to a season high of 49.125 in the 2025 season. The GymCats earned eight individual vault titles under the guidance of Martinez. The Arizona alumna was named WCGA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year in her first season with the GymCats, along with the other assistant coaches.

Shelby Martinez (Edwards) was hired as the third assistant coach for Arizona Gymnastics in August 2024.
 
“I am pleased to welcome Shelby and her family back to Tucson,” head coach John Court said. “She brings experience as an elite competitor, successful collegiate athlete, and professional coach. Her high energy and positive attitude are both contagious and our athletes will benefit in all areas from her presence.”
 
Martinez comes to Arizona after coaching at Carter’s Gymnastics Academy in Mesa, Arizona for eight years. At Carter’s Gymnastics, Martinez was a coach, choreographer, and compulsory team director. She has worked with gymnasts from Levels 2-10 and has instructed coaching clinics. In addition, she choreographed over 75 beam and floor routines for Levels 6-10 and Xcel gymnasts at Carter’s Gymnastics.  
 
As an Arizona alumna, Martinez held career high scores of 9.95 on vault, 9.90 on the balance beam, and 9.85 on the uneven bars and floor. She earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors twice during her first season as a GymCat in 2013 and earned second team All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 Co-Vault Champion honors in 2014. Martinez’s career-best 9.95 on vault remains tied for eighth in program history and secured her a share of the 2014 Pac-12 Vault Championship.
