Ryan Stotland was hired as head coach on June 9, 2018 by Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. Stotland came to Arizona after spending the past six seasons at Fresno State, where he won two Mountain West Conference tournament championships, reached the top 20 in the ITA National Rankings, posting a 27-4 overall regular-season record in MW matches and a 47-6 home record in his six years at Fresno State. Before Fresno State, Stotland was the assistant coach at Arizona for four seasons from 2008-12.
2024 proved to be one of the best for Arizona Women's Tennis under Stotland with the team earning an NCAA Championships berth for the first time in a decade and the 24th time in program history. The Wildcats compiled a 17-13 record and won four conference matches, including a takedown of then-No. 48 Utah. The Cats additionally posted a top-25 win with a defeat of Yale and advanced to the second round of the Pac-12 Championships for the second straight year after sweeping Oregon in the first round.
Under Stotland's guidance, Reece Carter attained All-Pac-12 First Team accolades for the second consecutive season. Brandelyn Fulgenzi and Kayla Wilkins each garnered All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention laurels.
The 2023 season saw Stotland lead the Cats to a 17-13 record that included an 11-4 mark at home. Arizona defeated a pair of ranked opponents with a 4-0 victory over then-No. 35 Illinois and a first-round Pac-12 Tournament win over 48th-ranked Utah. Stotland coached Carter to a spot on the All-Pac-12 First Team after a 17-7 singles season. Salma Ziouti garnered an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honor as well.
In his fourth year leading the Arizona program, Stotland's squad tallied 16 wins, seven of which came on the home court and three of which were against Pac-12 foes. He additionally guided the team to a final Oracle/ITA ranking of No. 47, the best season-ending ranking of his tenure.
In 2021, Stotland guided Jelena Lukic and Kayla Wilkins to All-Pac-12 honors. Lukic was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team after a 13-9 singles season while Wilkins tabbed All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, going 6-2 at the No. 2 singles spot. As a team, Arizona posted a 11-4 record at home and concluded the year ranked No. 67 in the final Oracle/ITA rankings.
Stotland's second season was cut short due to COVID-19. He led the team with a winning record of 9-7. During the fall (2019) semester Stotland's team earned the highest cumulative team GPA of a 3.67.
In his first year at the helm, Stotland led the Wildcats to a final ranking of No. 49 in the ITA National Rankings, including three ranked wins and three Pac-12 victories. He helped Emma Wilson be named Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 while also winning the Southwest Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. Wilson is one of the only two-time winners of this award as she also won this award at Fresno State, under Stotland's guidance. Off the court, five Wildcats were named Pac-12 All-Academic Team.
Stotland's sixth season at Fresno State, he guided the Bulldogs to the Mountain West championship for the third time in five seasons, where the 'Dogs claimed their second MW tournament title with a 4-2 win over top-seeded UNLV to earn the the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Fresno State grabbed four All-MW singles selections and one All-MW doubles selection.
In 2017, Fresno State claimed its fourth straight regular-season conference championship, with two All-MW singles team honorees along with one All-MW doubles team. Stloukalova was named MW Freshman of the Year, Fresno State's third in its first five seasons in the league.
In his fourth year at Fresno State, Stotland led the Bulldogs to their third consecutive regular-season Mountain West Championship. The Bulldogs reached the No. 20 ranking after qualifying for the ITA Indoor National Championships. To qualify, Fresno State defeated No. 34 Arkansas and No. 9 UCLA during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Under Stotland's tutelage, Rana and Mayar Sherif Ahmed qualified for the 2016 NCAA Championships where they earned All-America honors after reaching the doubles quarterfinals. Four of Stotland's student-athletes combined for six postseason conference honors, including Mayar Sherif Ahmed who earned Mountain West Player of the Year and an NCAA Singles berth. Mayar Sherif Ahmed has gone on to qualify for numerous Grand Slam events and is currently ranked as one of the top players in the world.
Following the season, it was announced by the Tennis Recruiting Network that Stotland landed the the No. 24 recruiting class in the country for the 2016-17 season. It was the first-ever ranking for the program in the outlet's Top 25.
Year three saw Stotland guide the 'Dogs to win 18 matches, defeating six nationally ranked opponents along the way. Four of Stotland's student-athletes accounted for nine Mountain West postseason honors, including Sophie Watts who was named Player of the Year, qualifying for the NCAA Singles Championship and Mayar Sherif Ahmed who was Freshman of the Year.
In just his second year at the helm of program, Stotland was named Mountain West Coach of the Year by the conference after leading the Bulldogs to the 2014 MW Championship. After starting 2014 with a 1-7 dual mark, Stotland led the Bulldogs to his first NCAA appearance as head coach having won 14 of their last 15 matches. This included two All-MW singles selections along with one All-MW doubles selection.
In their first-year in the Mountain West, Stotland guided freshman Rana Sherif Ahmed won the Mountain West Freshman of the Year award, along with one All-MW singles selection and one All-MW doubles selection.
Prior to joining the Bulldogs, Stotland was the assistant coach Arizona for four seasons where he coached five nationally ranked singles players, four nationally ranked doubles teams, posted a 55-37 overall record and made two NCAA Tournament appearances.
At Arizona, Stotland signed the 11th-best recruiting class in the country according to tennisrecruiting.net and developed a freshman into the No. 27-ranked player in the ITA rankings. Each year he led the team to a national ranking, including one year when they began the season unranked and were ranked in the top 30 during the season. The Wildcats were ranked as high as No. 24 during Stotland's time at Arizona.
In 2012, Stotland's Wildcats were a perfect 13-0 at home which was the first time in school history the team went undefeated at home. They advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the year at No. 27 in the ITA rankings. Prior to Arizona, Stotland coached at his alma mater, New Mexico, where he was a graduate assistant and undergraduate assistant from 2005-08. Stotland coached both the men's and women's programs that had winning seasons every year. He also was the Lobo Club Tennis Pro from 2006-08.
During his professional career on the ATP tour from 2005-07, he was ranked in singles and doubles in the world and won five tournaments. He reached a career high ranking of 499 in the world.
Collegiately, Stotland played for the Lobos of New Mexico where he went from being a walk-on to the No. 1 player on the team. He won two conference championships and is the highest ranked player in UNM history at No. 2 in the NCAA in doubles.
The Boise, Idaho native also garnered the accolade of being UNM's only four-time Mountain West All-Academic honoree, MW Scholar Athlete and ITA Scholar Athlete Honoree in school history.
Stotland graduated magna cum laude and earned a bachelor of business administration as a triple major in accounting, marketing and general management from New Mexico.
