Arizona Volleyball head coach Charita Stubbs hired Simone Asque-Favia as an assistant coach in February 2025. Asque-Favia comes to Arizona after three years as the head coach at Siena College. Prior to Sienna College, Asque-Favia was an assistant coach at Seton Hall (2018-21), Coastal Carolina (2017), New Jersey Institute of Technology (2016), and UIC (2015).
“I’m excited to have Simone join our staff,” head coach Charita Stubbs said. “Any time you get the opportunity to have someone on staff that’s been a head coach, it makes your program immediately better. She is knowledgeable about the game, invested in being the best trainer, and has great people skills which will elevate our program.”
During her three seasons leading Siena Volleyball, Asque-Favia coached a pair of All-MAAC performers and one MAAC All-Freshman team player. In Asque-Favia’s first season at Siena, she led the Saints to a 13-win season and a #5 seed in the MAAC Tournament. The Saints saw 21 total MAAC All-Academic honors and five total CSC Academic All-District selections in Asque-Favia’s tenure.
At Seton Hall, Asque-Favia served as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, helping the Pirates recruit and develop two All-BIG EAST players and two BIG EAST All-Freshman team honorees. Additionally, Asque-Favia was selected to receive a Pac-12 Diversity Mentorship in 2020 and was named to the Advancement of Blacks in Sports (ABIS) Volleyball Black Coaches Watch List in 2021 during her stint at Seton Hall.
Asque-Favia spent one year at Coastal Carolina before joining Seton Hall’s staff. At Coastal Carolina, she helped the Chanticleers win the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships with a 20-8 record, including a 15-1 record in conference play. Asque-Favia aided the Chanticleers to reach the NCAA Tournament with a 14-match win streak and mentored the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and AVCA All-Region selection.
Prior to joining the Coastal Carolina’s staff, Asque-Favia was an assistant coach at UIC and NJIT where she led recruiting efforts and helped create practice plans and scouting reports.
Asque-Favia played collegiately at Virginia from 2008-11 and was a first-team All-ACC outside hitter. She remains ranked in the top 10 in kills per set (4th – 3.48 kills/set) and career kills (5th – 1,442 kills). Asque-Favia holds the single match records at Virginia for kills in a four-set match (30 kills), kills in a five-set match (29 kills), and service aces in a five-set match (7 aces).
Asque-Favia graduated from the University of Virginia with her B.A. in Psychology in 2012 and earned her Master’s in Psychological Studies in Sports and Exercise Psychology from Seton Hall in 2021. A native of Chicago, Asque-Favia married her husband, Ethan Favia, in June of 2021.
