Dr. Jessica Flayer, licensed professional counselor, is responsible for providing mental health counseling and performance consultations to student-athletes. In her role at Arizona, she also consults with coaches and works within the interdisciplinary sport medicine staff to improve treatment outcomes.

Flayer earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas Lutheran University, moving on to obtain her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northern Arizona University. She furthered her education by obtaining her Doctor of Philosophy in General Psychology with an emphasis in Performance Psychology from Grand Canyon University. Her dissertation at GCU examined the transition out of sport and athletic retirement for collegiate student-athletes.
 
Flayer has spent much of her professional experience supporting client’s in addressing anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and trauma using validated treatment interventions. Prior to her role at Arizona, Flayer worked in private practice specializing in working with athletes at the elite youth, collegiate, and professional levels as well as working with first responders.
