Matt Brown was hired by Arizona Athletics in 2001 and currently serves as Assistant Director of Athletics for Event Operations. In his role, Brown assists in the preparation, execution and successful completion of Arizona’s 20 NCAA Division I athletic programs, in addition to similar responsibilities for hosting various Pac-12 and NCAA postseason competitions.
Among Brown’s specific duties are management, coordination and direct oversight for event operations of football, men’s basketball and baseball. Brown also serves as traveling athletics administrator for NCAA postseason competitions for each of these three sports, responsible for coordinating team travel arrangements among other duties as an official UA representative at Pac-12 and NCAA Championships.
In his day-to-day work with the programs, Brown coordinates on-campus athletic event efforts with facilities management, custodial, grounds and labor, parking, police, campus groups, community entities and administration. Furthermore, he supervises a multitude of game day personnel including ticket-takers, venue ushers and security personnel. Additionally, Brown works immediately with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to ensure Arizona Athletics events are conducted in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.
Brown has assisted in the hosting of numerous Pac-12 and NCAA tournaments for men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, gymnastics and men’s golf. He served as tournament manager for the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship preliminary rounds in 2005 and 2011, the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball championship preliminary rounds in 2006 and the NCAA Division I Baseball Regional Championship hosted in 2012, while also serving as meet director for the 2004 Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships and the 2004 NCAA South Central Regional Gymnastics Championships.
Prior to his time with Arizona Athletics, Brown was the Marketing Manager and Visiting Team Liaison for the Insight.com Bowl. His earlier work included being a sales assistant for the Tucson Sidewinders Professional Baseball Club and an assistant media director for the Copper Bowl Foundation in Tucson. He is actively involved in numerous local charity and volunteer events.
Brown earned a Bachelor of Social and Behavioral Science degree in sociology from the University of Arizona in 1997. He is married to the former Leslie Wolfe, who is a UA softball letterwinner and member of the 2006 national championship team. They have one son, Brooks, and one daughter, Kamryn. Brown’s father, Larry, was a basketball letterwinner in the 1950s.
