Mike Christy joined Arizona Athletics in June of 2019 and was promoted to Director of Sports Photography in December of 2021. As one of the athletics department’s in-house photographers, the UA graduate is in charge of directing photography coverage for all home events, collateral marketing shoots, maintaining the department’s photo archives and supervising full-time and student photographers.
Christy has enhanced photography operations at Arizona in a variety of ways, which included launching digital asset management systems using the PhotoShelter and INFLCR platforms. His work has been published in a variety of outlets, including The Today Show, CBS, ESPN, MLB, The New York Times, Associated Press, Getty and the NCAA.
He joined Arizona Athletics following seven years as a staff photographer at the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson. Christy is an award-winning photographer who covered the Wildcats for Tucson’s daily newspaper and the University of Arizona’s Daily Wildcat newspaper prior. His sports photography work has won nearly every award in the state of Arizona, including recognition by the Arizona Photojournalism Awards, Arizona Newspapers Association and the University Photographer's Association of America.
Christy served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Arizona School of Journalism in 2017 where he taught the department’s Beginning Photojournalism class, which is a required course for all Journalism students. He also volunteers on the Regional Advisory Board for Pima County JTED, helping to plan and provide instruction for high school-aged photography students.
He is a 2011 graduate of the School of Journalism at the University of Arizona and is currently working on his master's degree in Sport and Recreational Leadership. Mike and his wife, Emily, were married in November of 2022.
