William Wheeler joined the University of Arizona Athletics Department in August 2024 and currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer. He is a member of the department’s Executive Team and is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, analytics, and audit processes. Wheeler also serves as the sport administrator for men's and women's track & field and cross country.
Wheeler arrived in Tucson after serving as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Finance & Analytics at the University of Missouri, where he managed a $164 million budget and led both the business office and a newly created analytics team focused on revenue strategy and sports science. During his time at Missouri, he also served as the sport administrator for softball, women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s track & field.
Prior to his time at Missouri, Wheeler held several financial leadership roles at UNLV, including Interim CFO and Senior Associate Athletics Director, overseeing a $75 million athletics budget, the business and equipment services teams, and capital project funding. He also served in business operations roles at Florida State and Montclair State, with responsibilities spanning budgeting, audits, NCAA financial reporting, and team travel.
A native of New Jersey, Wheeler earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration from the College of Saint Elizabeth, graduating with highest honors. He is an active member of the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA), College Athletics Analytics Professionals, and several national business honor societies.
