Honolulu - The Arizona men's tennis team defeated the University of Hawaii at Honolulu Tuesday, 5-2, the Cats swept all three of the doubles matches.
Junior Tom Lloyd and sophomore Carl Hagman, playing singles in the No. 1 and 2 spots, competed in hard-fought matches to beat Reginaldo Moralejo, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 and Malino Oda, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, respectively.
Sophomore Whi Kim topped Jorgi Gonzales, 6-3, 7-6, in the third position. The Wildcats struggled at the fourth and fifth positions, as sophomore Arnaud Agniel lost to Francisco Brignole, 6-7, 6-4, def., and sophomore Roeland Brateanu fell to Justin Menolascino in a tough match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Senior Brian Jackson cruised by Lincoln Leeder, 6-4, 6-3, in the sixth spot to the match.
On the doubles side, the team of Brateanu and Hagman shut out Brignole and Gonzales, 8-0. Kim and Lloyd held on to beat Hawaii's team of Leeder and Oda by a score of 9-8, and Agniel and Jackson topped Moralejo and Kai Ohuchi, 8-3.
The Arizona men's tennis team next travels to Palm Desert, Calif., Jan.12-13, to compete in Jerry's Desert Invitational.
