CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Steven Jackson ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns
as Oregon State dealt Arizona its fifth straight loss Saturday, 38-3.
Derek Anderson passed for 239 yards and a score for Oregon State (6-3, 2-3
Pac-10), which won its second straight after losing three in a row.
Arizona (3-6, 0-5), which remained the only winless team in the
Pac-10, had minus-23 yards rushing and 93 yards overall. Bobby Gill kicked a
43-yard field goal with 1:02 left in the third quarter, and that was it for the
Wildcats.
The Beavers had 457 total yards.
Jackson, who entered the game ranked closely behind Oregon's Onterrio Smith
for the Pac-10 rushing lead, put up 119 yards in the first half alone for his
sixth 100-yard game this season.
After Anderson scored on a 1-yard keeper, he hit James Newson for an 86-yard
scoring pass to put Oregon State ahead 21-0. Anderson completed 12 of 28
passes.
Arizona's Jason Johnson was 14-of-28 for 105 yards, but he was sacked five
times.
Jackson ran for another 1-yard score, and the Beavers took a 28-0 lead into
halftime. The Beavers held the Wildcats to minus-22 yards rushing in the first
half. Arizona came in ranked 115th in the nation in rushing offense, at 60
yards a game.
Four games into the season, Arizona lost Clarence Farmer, last season's
Pac-10 rushing champion, with a knee injury. His replacements - redshirt
freshman Mike Bell and freshman Beau Carr - have struggled this season.
Arizona also struggled in the air against Oregon State. Bobby Wade caught
four passes for 34 yards, as the Beavers' defense double-covered him for much
of the game. He had been averaging 117.5 yards.
The Beavers have won their last four against Arizona, including last year's
38-3 blowout at Reser Stadium.
The Beavers, already out of the Pac-10 race, are struggling to keep their
bowl hopes alive. Last weekend against California, Jackson ran for a
career-high 239 yards in Oregon State's 24-13 victory.
