TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team tallied an opening-round total of 383 (+28) Monday at the CordeValle Collegiate Championship in San Martin, Calif.
Arizona's effort put the team in 10th place among the 12-team field entering the second round. Two Cats stand in the top-20 places through the first 18 holes.
Host UCLA leads the event with a 12-over par 367 total, one stroke ahead of Stanford. Washington (370), Northwestern (371) and Oregon (375) round out the top-five places. Individually, UCLA's Patrick Cantlay leads the 76-man field with a four-under 67.
The CordeValle Collegiate Championship counts the low five scores per round for each six-man team.
Jonathan Khan and Erik Oja currently lead the Wildcats with a three-over 74 tally. The duo shares a tie for 13th place. Tye Beall is in a tie for 33rd place after shooting a 76 (+5), three strokes ahead of teammate Tarquin MacManus who is tied for 52nd place.
Rounding out the Arizona contingent is Trent Redfern, who is tied for 70th place with a 10-over 81, and Philip Bagdade, who is in 76th place with an 18-over 89.
The CordeValle Collegiate Championship continues through Wednesday at CordeValle Country Club, a par-71, 7,169-yard layout. Live tournament scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com.
