Three Wildcats in Top 15 at WNMU Cactus Thaw
Juan Pablo Hernandez is one stroke off the lead
TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona entered four golfers to compete as individuals in the WNMU Cactus Thaw, three of whom are in position to nab their first career top 20 finish. Newcomers Juan Pablo Hernandez, Stefan Cox and Trent Redfern are tied for third, eighth and fourteenth, respectively, with one round to play.
The events champion three years in a row, Western New Mexico, leads the tournament by five strokes. The Mustangs are led by Scott Crichton who is tied for first place with Branden Barron of South Mountain C.C.
Hernandez carded a 69 (-2) on the day, besting his season and career high of 71 shot in the Arizona Intercollegiate. Cox shot even par to tie for eighth for the first round. Redfern's 72 (+1) ties his season and career best round. Peter Ireland is tied for 32nd.
The second and final round will be held tomorrow.
