Four players recorded kills in the double-digits to lead the Arizona volleyball team (14-8, 6-7) past Washington State (11-12, 3-10) on Friday night in Pulllman, Wash. The Wildcats defeated the Cougars, 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-20, 25-15).
Senior Courtney Karst (Centennial, Colo.) led the Wildcats with 15 kills, senior Cursty Jackson (Los Angeles) had 14, freshman Taylor Arizobal (Dana Hills, Calif.) tied her career-high with 11 and freshman Madi Kingdon (Phoenix, Ariz.) added 10.
“It wasn't the prettiest match, we made a lot of unforced errors,” Arizona head coach David Rubio said. “We hung on and were able to get a win in the end against a really good team on the road. A lot of teams are playing really well right now.”
Sophomore Candace Nicholson (Long Beach, Calif.) posted 19 digs for Arizona, making it her ninth-consecutive match with digs in the double digits.
Freshman Chloe Mathis (La Jolla, Calif.) led the team in assists with 48 and Jackson added a match-high four blocks.
The Wildcats turned a consistent performance, hitting over .200 in every set, a feat they have not accomplished since playing WSU the first time on Sept. 25 in Tucson.
“Offensively we played really well,” Rubio said. “It was Chloe's best performance of the season. Courtney and Cursty played well for us and Candace stepped up for us defensively.”
Meagan Ganzer led the Cougars with 23 kills and 11 digs.
Arizona will hit the road again to face No. 10 Washington at noon on Sunday, Oct. 30 in Seattle, Wash.
