
M Golf Finishes 29th at NCAA Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team finished in 29th place after Thursday's third round at the 2011 NCAA Men's Golf Championships in Stillwater, Okla.
The Wildcats tallied a 321 (+33) total in the third round and ended competition in 29th place after 54 holes with a 933 (+69) tally. UA struggled to its highest round of the tournament at Karsten Creek Golf Club, where no team and just seven individuals finished under par through three rounds of play.
UCLA topped the field at eight-over 872, three shots ahead of Georgia Tech and seven ahead of host Oklahoma State and Illinois. Georgia rounded out the top five places at 884 (+20).
UCLA, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Illinois, Georgia, Ohio State, Augusta State and Duke advanced to the match-play portion of the competition to determine the 2011 national champion.
Louisiana State's John Peterson won the individual national championship at five-under 211. He topped the 156-man field by one stroke.
Arizona senior Tarquin MacManus led the Cats, as tied for 74th place at 11-over 227. The native of Cairns, Queensland, Australia, carded a 77 Thursday to post UA's best round of the day. Teammate Jonathan Khan tied for 106th place at 16-over 232.
Senior Stefan Cox tied for 129th place at 23-over 239. Teammate Erik Oja tied for 139th place at 25-over 241. His final-round 79 was Arizona's second-best round of the day. Juan Pablo Hernandez tied for 143rd place at 29-over 245.
The 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships continue through Sunday at Karsten Creek Golf Course, a par-72, 7,416-yard layout.
