Junior Andre Vidaller is in Sarasota, Fla. representing the Arizona Wildcat men's tennis team at the third annual Dicky V Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic. The tournament is held at the Athletic Center of Lakewood Ranch, where play began Friday.
After winning two matches on Nov. 9, Vidaller advanced to the quarterfinals where he took on Thomas Proisy from Florida. Vidaller claimed the match by holding Proisy to only three wins in two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
In the semifinals, Vidaller battled Florida's Michael Alford. Vidaller clinched the first set, 6-3, but Alford fought back to hand Vidaller his first lost set of the tournament, 6-1. The match entered a third set where the two remained neck-and-neck and brought the set to six games each. Vidaller dominated the tiebreaker, 7-2, to clinch the match, 7-6 (2).
After two days of play and four victories, Vidaller has earned a spot in the event finals set to take place on Sunday morning. Vidaller will play Finn Tearney from Pepperdine for the title.
