TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona Wildcat men's golf finished the first round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Saturday in Palm Desert, Calif. with a score of 304 (+16) for a tie for 19th place with University of Hawaii. UNLV holds a one-stroke lead with a score of 279 (-9).
After the first round, Auburn University sits in second place behind UNLV by one stroke with a 280 (-8), and Kent State is in third with a score of 282 (-6). Individually, Auburn's Niclas Carlsson is in first after an opening round score of 66 (-6). Teammate Blayne Barber, UNLV's Kevin Penner, and Kent State's Corey Conners are tied for second with scores of 67 (-5).
For the Wildcats, freshman Brenden Redfern shot even in the first round with a score of 72 to tie for 23rd place. Junior Juan Pablo Hernandez and sophomore Erik Ojaare tied for 67th place with scores of 75 (+3).
The second round was suspended Saturday Evening at the Classic Club due to darkness, and will be resumed Sunday at 7:30 a.m. PT, followed by the third round.
