Wildcats Finish Fifth at Fresno State Lexus Classic

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team finished in fifth place Tuesday at the Fresno State Lexus Classic in Fresno, Calif.

The Wildcats carded a final-round 382 and finished the three-round event with a 1,100 (+20) total, finishing in fifth place in the 16-team field. It was Arizona's second top-five finish this season.

Oregon State (1,087) won the event by six strokes over Washington State (1,093). San Diego (1,096) and Pacific (1,099) rounded out the top-four places.

The Fresno State Lexus Classic is a six-play, five-count tournament contested at Fort Washington Country Club, a par-72, 6,765-yard layout.

San Diego's Alex Ching captured individual medalist honors with a seven-under 209 total.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was Juan Pablo Hernandez, who finished in seventh place with an even-par 216 tally. It was the fourth top-10 finish of the season for the junior from Mexico City, Mexico. Also finishing in the top 20 was classmate Brenden Redfern, who tied for 14th place at three-over 219.

Erik Oja and Alex McMahon, playing as an individual, tied for 27th place at five-over 221, two shots ahead of Brenden Redfern, who tied for 37th place.

Rounding out the Arizona contingent was Tucker Wadkins, who tied for 47th place at 225 (+9), and Philip Bagdade, how tied for 61st place at 12-over 228.

Up next, Arizona men's golf returns home to host the National Invitational Tournament, scheduled for March 16-17 at Omni Tucson National Golf Course.
