TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team finished in 11th place Saturday at the ASU/Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.

Arizona posted a final-round 295 (+11) to finish the 54-hole event with an 882 (+30) total in the 17-team event. California (835/-17) topped the field by eight strokes, finishing ahead of San Diego State (843), New Mexico (843), UNLV (850) and Washington (856), who rounded out the top-five places.

UNLV's Derek Ernst earned individual medalist honors after posting a nine-under 204 total.

Arizona was led by sophomore Erik Oja, who tied for 16th place at two-under 211. The native of Sandviken, Sweden, who has been the Wildcats' top finisher in the last three events, was the only Wildcat to post a score under par (2) in the three rounds played. He's been under par in five of his last eight rounds played.

Junior Juan Pablo Hernandez carded a final-round 73 (+2) - his low round of the tournament - and finished in a tie for 48th place at 222 (+9). Freshman Alex McMahon, competing in this event as a an individual, shot a final-round 74 to finish in a tie for 56th place at 11-over 224.

Freshman Tucker Wadkins tied for 56th place at 11-over 224, one shot ahead of junior Trent Redfern, who tied for 61st place. Senior Philip Bagdadetied for 70th place at 16-over 229.

Freshman Brenden Redfern, also competing as an individual, tied for 86th place at 21-over 234.

The ASU/Thunderbird Invitational was contested at the Karsten Golf Course, a par-71, 7,026-yard layout.

Arizona next will be in action on April 9-10 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz.
