Oja Selected to Swedish National Team

Jan. 21, 2013

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's golfer Erik Oja was named to the 2013 Swedish national team, it was announced recently.

Oja, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound, junior from Sandviken, Sweden, was one of seven players named to represent Sweden internationally this summer. Among the events on the schedule are the British Amateur Championship, June 17-22, at Royal Cinque Ports and Prince's golf clubs; the European Amateur Team Championship, July 9-13, at Silkeborg Golf Course in Denmark; and the European Amateur Championship, Aug. 7-10, at Real Club de Golf el Prat in Spain.

"Being selected to represent your country in competition is a tremendous honor," said Arizona head coach Jim Anderson. "Erik has worked very hard for this distinction and he is a tremendous addition to the Swedish National Team. I am sure he will share the same effort, professionalism, and spirit that he brings with his Wildcat teammates. We will be cheering on his successes."

He currently leads Arizona with a 73.42 scoring average through play last fall. In four events, Oja posted two top-10 finishes and one top-20 effort, including a tie for ninth place at the Lone Star Invitational, Oct. 14-16, in his last event of the fall.

Oja and the Wildcats open spring competition at the Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 28-29, at The Golf Club of Vistoso. A shotgun start is scheduled for 8 a.m. MST both days.
