TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore Naoki Takeda made it to the consolation finals, but was unable to close it out on Monday at the ITA Southwest Regionals, hosted by Pepperdine University.

Takeda lost to Pac-12 rival Seth Stolar of UCLA in three sets, 6-7, 6-0, 10-3.

“Overall it was a productive tournament for the team,” head coach Tad Berkowitz said. “I saw improvements in many areas as the tournament progressed. We look forward to getting back to work on the practice courts and in the gym.”

In order to make it into the final, Takeda had to go through fellow Wildcat Fredrik Ask.

The semi-final match was a tough battle back and forth as Takeda took the first set and Ask took the second, but Takeda endured a tough, decisive third set to win the match, 6-2, 4-6, 15-13.

The Cats will be on a short hiatus before returning to action Nov. 1 thru 3 at the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev.
