The Arizona Wildcat men's tennis team fell, 6-1, to the Louisville Cardinals in Louisville, Ky. The loss marks the third straight for the Cats.
In doubles play, Arizona dropped the doubles point with losses on courts one and two. Finishing first was the team of Giacomo Miccini and Mario Urquidi on court two. The junior duo fell, 8-3, to Van Damrongsri and Albert Wagner. On court one, Fredrik Ask and Naoki Takeda on court three. Thompson and Takeda earned Arizona's only doubles win of the day as they topped Jeffrey Brown and Austin Siegel, 8-5.
In singles action, Ask finished first in his match against Wagner on court two. The Oslo, Norway native fought a close first set with Wagner but was ultimately topped, 7-5. In the second set, Ask was only able to secure one game as he fell, 6-1. On court one, Miccini was next to finish in he match against Stiefelmeyer. The Recanat, Italy native dominated the first set, earning a 6-0 victory. Stiefelmeyer bounced back to claim the second set, 6-3, to force a third set. Miccini was unable to clinch a game in the set as he dropped the set and the match, 6-0. Finishing third was Shinde on court four. The sophomore from Pune, India fought a back and forth battle with Michael Lippens, dropping the first set, 6-4. Shinde bounced back to clinch the second set, 6-4, and force a third set. Shinde was unable to secure a win in the third set as he dropped the set, 6-0. The loss marked the fourth point four the Cardinals and clinched the match in their favor.
On court six, Takeda took on Siegel. The freshman from Osoka, Japan dropped the first set, 6-3, but came back to claim the second set, 6-2. The match entered a third set where Takeda was unable to secure a win as he fell, 6-0.
Earning Arizona's only point of the day was Thompson on court three. The junior from Brisbane, Australia claimed the first set, 7-5 against Chris Simich, but Simich came back to win the second, 6-2. The court entered a third set where Thompson clinched a 6-2 victory.
Last to finish was Urquidi on court five. Urquidi, a junior from El Paso, Texas dropped the first set, 6-1, to Gornet. In the second set, the two fought a close battle to fource a tiebreaker where Urquidi cam out on top, 7-6(3). The court entered a third set where Urquidi fell, 6-2.
With the loss Arizona falls to 9-6 and Louisville improves to 10-6.
The Cats will be back in action on Sunday as they take on Moorhead State on neutral ground.
