Cats Fall in Final Regular Season Match

Cats Snap Streak, Blank Eagles

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -

The Arizona Wildcat men's tennis team snapped a three match losing streak with a 7-0 win over the Morehead State Eagles. The Cats had a perfect day against the Eagles, earning all three doubles matches as well as all six singles matches.

In doubles action, Fredrik Ask and Giacomo Miccini and Mario Urquidi on court two. The junior duo topped David Clifford and Kevin Delgny, 8-5. The win marked the second for the Wildcats and clinched the doubles point in their favor.

Last to finish was the team of Naoki Takeda and Matt Dunn on court three. The freshman team rounded out a perfect doubles competition for the Cats with a 8-5 defeat of Nathan Martin and Hugo Almonte.

In singles play, Ask wrapped up first in his match against Martin on court two. Ask dominated play, holding Martin to only two wins in as many sets. The junior from Oslo, Norway earned the match, 6-2, 6-0. On court three, Shinde finished next in his defeat of Giocanni Samaha. Shinde, a sophomore from Pune, India, held Samaha to only one win in the 6-1, 6-0 decision. Third to finish was Takeda on court five. The freshman from Osoka, Japan held Mercer to two wins in as many sets as he claimed the match, 6-0, 6-2. The win marked the fourth point for the Wildcats and clinched the match in their favor.

On court one, MIccini and Heo fought a back and forth battle as Miccini claimed the first set, 6-3, and Heo answered with the next set, also 6-3. With the match already clinched the court entered a super-tiebreaker where Miccini pulled ahead to clinch the match, 10-6. Urquidi was next to finish in a close match against Clifford. The junior from El Paso, Texas claimed the first set, 6-4, and was forced to earn a seventh game to clinch the second set, 7-5. Last to finish was Dunn on court six. The freshman and Tucson native fought a seesaw match with Deligny as he earned the first set, 6-4, but dropped the second, also 6-4. The court entered a super-tiebreaker where Dunn reclaimed the lead to clinch the match, 10-6. The win marked the seventh point for the Wildcats and rounded out a perfect day for the team.

With the win the Cats improve to 10-6 while the Eagles fall to 6-8.

Arizona will be back in action on March 29 as they open Pac-12 play against the Washington Huskies in Tucson. The match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
