a 4.42 ERA before missing the majority of the season after undergoing 'Tommy
John' surgery on his left elbow ... Struck out 43 in 38 2/3 innings pitched ...
Also appeared in 12 games as UA's DH, making 11 starts ... Batted .278 with
five doubles, 10 RBI and four runs scored ...at No. 15
Mississippi State (March 10-12): Was charged with his third loss of
the season despite striking out a season-high 11 batters and allowing just two
earned runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings ... Dairy Queen Classic (March
3-5): Picked up his third win of the year with five innings of work against
Minnesota ... Allowed just two runs on four hits with six Ks in the win ... La
Salle (Feb. 24-26): won his second game of the season after allowing
just one run on two hits over 5 1/3 innings. Struck out 10 ... Loyola
Marymount (Feb. 3-5): Won his frist game of
the season after allowing one earned runs on four hits in UA's season-opener.
Struck out three and walked one.
Arizona 2005
Went 6-2 with one save in 61 innings pitched ... His 24
appearances tied for the third-most in school history for a freshman pitcher ...
Finished the season with 68 strikeouts, the fourth-best mark by a UA freshman ...
NCAA Fullerton Regional (June 3-6): Made two relief appearances against
the defending national champion Titans on June 4 and 6 ... Struck out 10 of the
16 hitters he faced in 4 2/3 innings over two games and limited the opposition
to a .125 batting average ... California (May
28-29): Was charged with just his second loss of the year after surrendering
three runs on eight hits over three innings. Finished with one strikeout and
one walk ... at #22 Stanford (May
20-22): Lost his first career decision in a 5-4 loss to the Cardinal. Gave up
just one run on two hits 1 2/3 innings, but it was enough to hand him the loss.
Struck out two and walked one ... at #24 Arizona State
(May 14-16): Tossed 3 2/3 innings in Arizona's
16-7 win over the Sun Devils on May 15. Surrendered two runs on two hits and
finished with two Ks and one walk to help him earn his first career save... Utah Valley
State (May 6-8): Worked 3 2/3 scoreless
innings in UA's 7-2 win on May 8. Struck out three and walked none to pick up
his sixth victory of the year ... USC (April
29-May 1): Won his fifth game of the season after working a season-high six scoreless
innings against the Trojans on May 1. Limited USC to just two hits and struck
out five in UA's 18-4 win ... at Sacramento State (April 23): Did not factor in
the decision in UA's 7-4 loss. Worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings and finished with
three strikeouts and no walks ... at New Mexico (April
19): Tallied his fourth win of the year with four innings of relief against the
Lobos. Gave two runs on four hits and finished with two strikeouts and four
walks in the 14-3 Arizona win ... #15
Oregon State (April 15-17): Gave up one runs on one hit in Arizona's
series-opening 7-5 victory ... at
Washington State (April 8-10): Worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings against the
Cougars in UA's series sweeping 13-10 win on April 10. Gave up just one hit and
walked a pair of batters in the no-decision effort ... at UCLA (April 1-3): Won his third decision
of the season with 5 2/3 hitless innings of relief in Westwood. Struck out six
and walked just one in Arizona's series-sweeping 12-2 win on April 3 ... Washington (March 24-26): Struck out
six of the eight hitters he faced in a hitless no-decision game against the
Huskies on March 24 ... at #2 Cal State
Fullerton (March 18-20): Started his third game of the year and was roughed
up for six runs on three hits in just 1 1/3 innings in a 17-15 CSF victory on
March 20. Did not earn a decision in the game ... UNLV (March 15-16): Made his second career start and struck out a
season-high eight batters in UA's 8-4 loss to the Rebels ... Mississippi State (March 11-13): Struck out three hitters over a
scoreless 2 1/3 innings on March 12 ... Started one game at DH and went 1 for 3
with a RBI ... #1 Texas (March 4-6):
Made two appearances against the top-ranked Longhorns. Went two scoreless
innings with two Ks in the 5-4 loss in the series opener and worked a scoreless
third of an inning in the 5-4 loss on March 6 ... UC Riverside (Feb. 25-27): Struck out the only batter he faced in
Arizona's 5-4 win on Feb. 27 ... Arizona
State (Feb. 23): Recorded his second win of the year with 2 2/3 innings of
relief in Arizona's 11-5 non-conference win. Gave up three runs on two hits
while striking out two and walking two ... at
UT Pan American (Feb. 18-20): Worked a scoreless inning of relief in UA's
first loss of the year to UTPA on Feb. 20. Struck out one and walked one ... Arizona State (Feb. 15): Made his first career start
against ASU and gave four runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings. Did not factor in
the 7-6, 14-inning decision ... Northern
Colorado (Feb. 12-13): Struck out the side in one inning of relief in a
10-0 shutout win on Feb. 13 ... New Mexico (Feb.
4-6): Picked up the victory in his first career appearance in an Arizona uniform. Worked
2 2/3 innings in his debut and finished with four strikeouts against just one
walk.
Summer 2005
Pitched for Yarmouth-Dennis in the Cape Cod League ... Went
2-0 with three saves and a 0.48 ERA in 18 2/3 innings ... Finished with 21
strikeouts and five walks in six appearances ... Named the No. 13 prospect on the
Baseball America top 30 list in the
