Formaz Clocks No. 3 Time In UA History

Walnut, Calif. - The University of Arizona Wildcats No. 22 men's and No. 6 women's track and field teams began competition at the 55th annual Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday in Walnut, Calif. The meet is taking place at Hilmar Lodge Stadium.

Sophomore Hanna Peterson ran in the open section of the 1,500-meter race and clocked a time of 4:39.68. Her personal-best time was good for 11th place in heat seven. On the men's side, junior Braden Timpe clocked a time of 3:57.37 in the 1,500-meter race and took 12th place in heat six of the open section.

In the Olympic development section of the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Clea Formaz clocked a personal-best time of 10:12.96. That time was good for fifth place in her section and ranks as No. 3 in UA history and No. 9 in the country this year, excluding results from around the country. Freshman Thomas Valente clocked a personal-best time of 9:17.28 in the open section of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. His time was good for fourth place in section “C.” In the women's open “A” section of the steeplechase, junior Erin Menefee clocked a season-best time of 10:59.19 and took 20th place. In her first ever 10,000-meter race, sophomore Stephanie Bulder clocked a time of 35:19.11. She took third place in the open “A” section.

Competition begins on Friday at 10 a.m. PST.
