Oldham Leaves Northridge With Singles Crown

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Senior Laura Oldham put together yet another dominating performance on Sunday, easily defeating Portland's Sophie Van Den Aarssen 7-6, 6-3 to clinch the black singles bracket championship, Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Matador Invitational.
Top-seeded Oldham (4-1) found her groove, as she rattled off four consecutive victories, while dropping just one set total on the weekend en route to claiming Arizona's first singles championship of the fall.
“I'm really happy with the way I competed and played this weekend,” said Oldham. “I played sensible, solid tennis and took my chances when I got the opportunity. I would like to thank my coaches for their support throughout the tournament.”
Junior Inge Henrikx (6-2) nearly gave the Cats a second singles championship after an valiant rally, but eventually dropped a heartbreaking three-set affair to UC Irvine's Andrea Duva 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. The loss marked just her first of the weekend, while Hendrikx has now reached the singles title match in each of her last two tournaments.
Arizona ended the weekend with a strong doubles performance as well, as Hendrikx and Oldham took down Cal State Northridge's tandem of Jessica Warren and Criss Rodriguez, 8-4 to claim third place in the black doubles bracket.
The Wildcats will conclude the fall campaign at the San Diego State Invitational on Nov. 7-9th in San Diego, California.
