Kasahara Captures Singles Title in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--- The University of Arizona men's tennis team concluded play at the San Diego State Invitational with freshman Shoki Kasahara capturing his first collegiate singles championship on Sunday.

Kasahara won his flight in the round robin portion at the SDSU Invitational in remarkable fashion, as he defeated Grand Canyon University's Alexandre Martinez in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to earn his first collegiate tournament title. The tournament win also clinched Arizona's first singles championship on the season.

“Overall it was a good weekend for these guys,” said assistant coach Arron Spencer. “They got in a ton of tennis over the past three days, and now know what exactly they each need to work on once back in Tucson.

“Congrats to Shoki, as he showed great toughness on his way to winning his first college tournament.”

The Wildcats are back in action in Malibu, California for ITA West Regional play on Oct. 17th.
