PASADENA, Calif. – UCLA handed Arizona (6-2, 3-2) its first road loss of the season Saturday night defeating the Wildcats, 17-7. The story of the night was the stifling UCLA defense as it held the Wildcats to the fewest points (7) and total yards (255) this season.

The Arizona defense played valiantly, allowing only 17 points and 189 passing yards. Sophomore linebacker Scooby Wright III led Arizona with 19 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks. Senior safety Jared Tevis added 10 tackles.

Offensively, redshirt freshman quarterback Anu Solomon struggled, completing 18 of 48 passes for one touchdown and an interception. Sophomore receiver Cayleb Jones totaled four catches for 46 yards and a touchdown, and running back Terris Jones-Grigsby finished with 11 carries for 50 yards.

For the Bruins, quarterback Brett Hundley was efficient through the air as he completed 19 of 26 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Payton was Hundley's top target as he finished the night with six catches, 119 yards and a 70-yard touchdown. Hundley was most effective on the ground, tallying 131 rushing yards on 24 carries.

Arizona got off to a quick start as Solomon led the Wildcats down the field on the first drive of the game, which ended in a 14-yard touchdown pass to Cayleb Jones in the corner of the end zone.

After empty possessions by each team, UCLA drove to the Arizona 14-yard line, but the drive was stalled after linebacker Scooby Wright sacked Hundley. Bruins kicker Kai'mi Fairbarin then missed a 37-yard field goal and the Wildcats took over at their own 20-yard line.

The second quarter began in the middle of a UCLA drive. Hundley drove the Bruins to the Wildcats one-yard line, but UCLA had to settle for a 24-yard field goal after back-to-back tackles for loss by linebackers Wright and Cody Ippolito to make the score 7-3 Arizona with 12:17 left.

With about three minutes left in the first half, senior cornerback Jonathan McKnight ended a UCLA drive by breaking up a deep pass by Hundley which led to a fourth down.

UCLA forced Arizona into a three-and-out, and punter Drew Riggleman booted a 70-yard punt to down the Bruins inside the 20-yard line. UCLA then took a knee to end the first half.

The Bruins got things going in the third quarter by scoring a touchdown with 5:34 left on a five-yard rush by Paul Perkins making the score 10-7 UCLA. The score capped a 12-play, 58-yard drive that ate up 4:42 of the clock.

After another three-and-out by Arizona, UCLA quickly got back on the board with a 70-yard pass from Hundley to Jordan Payton to extend its lead to 17-7.

Solomon and the Wildcats started to get into a groove as the freshman quarterback completed seven straight passes. But the drive stalled at the 22-yard line. Kicker Casey Skowron then missed the 39-yard field goal and UCLA took over.

After a forced fumble by safety Tra'Mayne Bondurant late in the fourth quarter, Arizona drove down to the UCLA five-yard line. Solomon was sacked on third down and Skowron's field goal attempt was blocked.

The Wildcats got the ball one more time, but Solomon threw his fifth interception of the season, and UCLA took a knee to run the clock out.

Arizona is back in action on Sat., Nov. 8 at home against Colorado at 6 p.m. MST.
