Arizona Falls to Louisville, 7-0

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona kicked off the second half of their season on Monday with a loss to Louisville as they fell 7-0 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

In doubles, Trevor James made his dual season debut for the Cats, pairng up with Kieren Thompson to defeat Louisville's Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown 8-6.

The victory was short lived for the Cats, as they dropped the doubles point in the following two matches. Mario Urquidi and Matt Dunn fell to Albert Wagner and Chris Simich 8-7 (3) while Naoki Takeda and Sumeet Shinde lost to Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri 8-5.

Arizona fought throughout singles play, with three of six matches going to third sets, but none were able to come up with a victory.

Thompson started off strong in his match against Wagner, but was unable to keep up the pace as he fell 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

The story was similar for Takeda, who won the first set 6-2, but fell in the others to Gornet for a final score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Senior Mario Urquidi found himself up in the third set to Simich as he tried to make a comeback, but fell just shy, at 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.

Only Shinde, Dunn and Trevor James lost in straight sets. Shinde was bested by Sebastian Stiefelmeyer 7-5, 7-5, Dunn fell to Luis Elizondo 6-1, 6-0 and James lost to Michael Lippens 6-2, 7-5.

Arizona has a quick turnaround as they are next in action vs. Utah State on Thursday, Mar. 14 at 12 p.m.
