Marker Shines on Day One in Palm Springs

TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore Lauren Marker went 3-0 on day one of the 2015 National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Palm Springs Calif. as she beat San Diego's Spinosa 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 and USC's Xepoleas 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. She also won her doubles match with Briar Preston.
In the doubles portion of the event, Preston/Marker defeated San Diego's Naslund/Meokel-Brink 6-1. Inge Hendrikx/ Devin Chypyha were defeated by Stanford's Zhao/Davidson 6-1, and Shayne Austin/Laura Oldham lost to San Diego's Spinosa/Oppinger 6-4.
The singles portion of the event began immediately after doubles matches were completed. In the first round of singles, Preston defeated Texas A&M's Pierson 6-4, 6-2, Oldham defeated San Diego's Oppinger 6-3, 6-3, Austin lost to Pepperdine's Guillermo 6-1, 6-2, Hendrikx was defeated by Stanford's Davidson 7-5, 7-5 and Chypyha lost to Pepperdine's Gulbe 7-5, 6-0.
Shortly after the first round of singles, another round began. Oldham was defeated by Texas A&M's Gauriloska 6-3, 6-1. Preston lost to Stanford's Hardebeck 6-2, 6-1. Hendrikx defeated San Diego's Naslund 6-2, 6-0, Chypyha lost to Stanford's Kostas 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) and Austin defeated San Diego's Blecker 6-4, 6-4.
Action continues tomorrow at 9 a.m. MST beginning with doubles play, which is followed by singles play immediately after.
