Arizona Opens 2015 Fall Campaign With Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz.--- The University of Arizona's women's tennis team will begin its 2015 fall season, as it'll host the third annual Wildcat Invitational at the El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort (10000 N. Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85704) this weekend, with tournament action beginning on Friday and concluding Sunday. Match play will start at 9 a.m. each day.
This weekend marks the first time Arizona will compete as a full team this season, as the Wildcats aim to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in six seasons. Arizona ended the 2015 campaign ranked No. 66 in the country.
“I'm truly looking forward to seeing the squad in action,” head coach Vicky Maes said. “We are doing a lot of good work in practice and I want to see them perform under a bit of pressure. This isn't the most important event of our year, but it's a good opportunity for everyone to see where they are in terms of competition.”
The Wildcats will be hosting Tulane, New Mexico, Marquette, University of Texas El Paso, University of Texas San Antonio, Utah State, Northern Arizona University, and Pima Community College.
Friday action will consist of two singles and match doubles match for each athlete, while Saturday will feature two doubles matches and a singles match. On Sunday, one singles and one doubles match will take place.
All Wildcats will compete in the event with the exception of 43rd ranked Lauren Marker, as she will be competing in the ITA All- American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. which will take place Oct 3-11th.
As always, admission to this weekend's event is FREE.
