Stoian and Skadsen Named to All-Pac-12 Team
11/10/2015 | Soccer
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Pac-12 Conference announced on Tuesday that sophomore Gabi Stoian was selected to the All-Pac-12 First Team and that senior Sheaffer Skadsen was an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection as well.
Stoian is Arizona's first All-Pac-12 First Team selection since Jazmin Ponce was chosen back in 2013. She was awarded the first Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week back in August after she scored three goals and finished with one assist against Abilene Christian and Santa Clara.
Even though she has missed the last three matches due to injury, she was still one of the most productive players in the conference. The sophomore attacker/midfielder led the conference in assists (eight), was third in the conference in points (20) and sixth in goals (six). Stoian currently has the fifth-most goals in Arizona history (19), the third-most assists (15) and is tied for the fourth-most points (53).
Skadsen has been Arizona's anchor on defense this year. She has played in a team-high 1,741 minutes this season. That is just 14 minutes short of playing in every single minute of every match. Skadsen is normally the last line of defense for Arizona, and she has thrived in that role all season. She has been a big part of Arizona having a goals against average of 1.23 this season and only allowing 24 goals all season.
Not only does she thrive while playing defense, she has come up big in the clutch as well. She has scored twice this season, and both of them have been in the 84th minute or later and have both been equalizers as well. Her goals came against Texas Tech on Sept. 11 and Colorado on Oct. 30. Skadsen was also named Pac-12 Defesive Player of the Week back on Sept. 29 after Arizona shut out then ranked No. 21 Washington.
Arizona is set to host Northern Colorado in the NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. MST. It is the first time that Arizona has hosted an NCAA Tournament match.
