
Wildcats and D-backs Announce Exhibition Game For 2016

TUCSON, Ariz.--- The University of Arizona and the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to take part in an exhibition game on March 1, 2016, at 3:10 pm out at the Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, Ariz. the two sides announced on Wednesday.
For Arizona, the game will be the final contest of an eight-game road swing to begin the season, while for the Diamondbacks, it'll mark the start of their 2016 Spring Training Slate.
“This will be a great opportunity for our players,” said Arizona baseball head coach Jay Johnson. “All of them aspire to Major League one day, so to be able to get the opportunity to get on the field and play with guys like Paul Goldschmidt and A.J. Pollock is a great opportunity for them that we are certainly looking forward to.”
“The Wildcats and Diamondbacks already share a unique bond, as current Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale is considered to be one of the best players in UA baseball history, playing for the Cats from 1984-87, while helping lead UA to the College World Series title in 1986.
“We are excited to kick off our 2016 Spring Training schedule against my alma mater the University of Arizona Wildcats,” said Diamondbacks Manager Chip Hale. “It will be a great way to start our quest for a championship.”
Fans can get an early sneak peek at Arizona's 2015 squad, as UA will compete in the first annual Wild vs. Cats intrasquad Fall World Series this weekend at Hi Corbett Field, beginning with game one on Thursday at 2:30 pm MST.
Arizona will kick off the 2016 regular season at Rice on Feb. 19, while the Wildcats will host their home opener at Hi Corbett Field on March 2 vs. Cal State Fullerton.
